Those quiet moments in the evening, a few stitches on my lunch break, this pick up and put down project is slowly coming to life. It is a soothing, mindful way to relax and all the colours together look very peaceful and calming to me.
I knew that the Kindness & Fortitude: A Quaker Sampler from Modern Folk Embroidery was going to be the first project I started in 2019. It was no coincidence that my word for the year is FORTITUDE, I did chose this pattern partly for that reason but also because it appealed to me and there is that Quaker connection.
Having finished the top section I am moving on to the motifs, firstly this sweet pair of birds. I did think about making them pigeons but instead chose to make them doves. I may create a robin too, as there are a couple more birds in the sampler. So far I really like how it's going and although I am tempted to add in more colour I think sticking with these more natural tones is going to give the vibe I want the piece to have.
Now for the giveaway...
Yesterday I posted about my Geo Diamond English Paper Pieced block, you can read that post HERE. I truly believe hand sewing is one of the best ways to relax and have some calm time. There are great benefits to being mindful as you enjoy the meditative process of stitching and creating. Naomi Clarke is a huge advocate of this and started a movement for #selfcompassionatesewing.
Naomi is kindly offering you the chance to win a 2 month subscription to her Geo Diamond English Paper Piecing Sewalong!
"In month 1, you’ll receive clear, easy-to-follow instructions for constructing your very own EPP Geo Diamond block as well as a ‘colour-me-in’ page so you can begin to plan your colours for your final quilt. [And the following month] you’ll receive the paper pieces to make one 12” EPP Geo Diamond block."
And you can join the sewalong any time so if you want to add a subscription you can!
"The EPP Geo Diamond Sewalong will not only ensure that you’ll receive happy mail each month but it will also offer the opportunity to be part of a supportive, fun community which will encourage your creativity, your sewing, your taking-time-for-you and your skill development! On top of all of this…you’ll also have your very own stunning EPP Geo Diamond quilt at the end!"

Hand stitching is one of my favourite pastimes, can't relax if I haven't got something to sew
My first quilt I started, but never finished, was hand quilted! My discovery of this quilt has prompted me to hand stitch for a finish! Thank you, Susan spierssusan52atgmaildotcom
Beautiful so far!
I love EPP at the moment, I discovered it during my mat leave. I’ve noticed I’m very irritable if I can’t manage any stitches during the day!

I always have a least one cross stitch and one EPP piece on the go, calming for the soul (unless it is a cross stitch pic with a border which doesn't match and you have to unpick it after counting every thread and stitch to see where you went wrong!). Very pretty colours on your Quaker piece, I have just finished a Lizzie Kate design. x
Still need to hand quilt my queen size rose star quilt, I'll leave that for winter( it's heavy and it's summer here). Half way through my next epp project and looking at what to follow it with.

I never liked handsewing, hexie’s why??? But I realised I loved hand sewing my binding onto quilts and was good at it. So when I couldn’t use my machine I started to sew hexies. Now I’m 35 flowers in to making a grandmothers pathway quilt. I’m officially addicted. Aldi thank you for your tips on SQ
Oops not sure where Aldi came from should be also ... haha
My favourite gem is a pearl.

Hi Lucy, love the sampler that you are doing. I would love the chance to join in the epp geo diamond sew along. epp is something new to me but lots of ladies at the guild (SWMQG) seem to be doing it and I would like to join in. The mindfulness bit is also fitting in with my goals for 2019! I hope you are enjoying your new job and glad to hear that you are getting some stitching in during your break. BW Lesley
oooh forgot my email - fingers crossed!!! lesleyannw@talktalk.net

I made a stack of hexies in 2018 and I've been handsewing them in the evenings as the noise of the machine is a bit much. The downside is that it relaxes me so much I start getting sleepy! 😂
I really love the calm tones of your sampler. I always want to throw bright colours in everything, despite loving other people's calm/low volume/neutral palettes.... I just can't help myself!
Diamonds are the best.
i love cross stitching used to do loads of it when i was youner x
Nothing will ever beat handstitching for me. Cross stitch until just recently I found EPP or actually it may have found me via SQ!
My favourite gemstone is amber, especially green amber. It looks stunning in a ring.

My favourite gemstone is my birthstone, the Sapphire.
I would love to move from paper cutting to fabric stitching - time for a new challenge !
I find handstitching very therapeutic too so have generally moved away from sewing full size quilts and making smaller proj3cts and some embroidery.
The diamond EPP looks a great project so I really appreciate the chance to win the 2 month subscription. My email is c53pritchard@gmail.com
I have almost finished a large handstitched patchwork quilt which has taken 4 years . I am now on the look out for my next project

I am a cross stitcher too - check out my instagram @a_stitch_to_the_left
This is really pretty and looks like it might be doable rather than impossible.
And f.apolon@hotmail.co.uk just in case Google is being an ass!
cross stitch and quaker do seem to a good combination. Calm, peaceful and restful yet you need to have tenacity and sticking power in adversity to see it through.
