I have two quilts that I finished recently, both made for Sewing Quarter. These are the last quilts I will make for them (for now at least) as I start something new. This one is the pretty Hot Air Balloon quilt pattern by Sarah Ashford.
The blocks are foundation paper pieced. In each one I included some Liberty fabric from the Adventures in the Sky collection in each balloon and the details in the prints shine through. This one was demonstrated on Christmas Eve.
The next quilt was made for my final regular show on the 28th December. It's made up of improvised curve blocks, which look very similar to drunkard's path blocks. I trimmed the blocks to make rectangles, so it's slightly different but I used a traditional block layout. The fabrics are a mix of Tilda Bird Pond with dots, solid lavender and a white background.
I really like the movement in this layout, it looks like clouds to me but my daughter said it looked like stairs! It's quilted with my walking foot. I didn't mark any lines, just followed the curves on the diagonal, pivoting at the corner of the block. I used white thread in the background section and the pink variegated Aurifil thread from the Great British Quilter Collection #3660 in the prints section. The variegated thread blends in so beautifully! This year I would love to add more variegated threads to my thread stash, they have become my favourite!
I am currently working on finishing a cross stitch kit from Stitchsperation, Charlie creates the most gorgeous typography designs and kits with hand painted fabric. This one will say 'Keep it Simple' and I've actually finished the Keep and am on to the Simple now. My aim is to get this one finished before the new year... so I better get to stitching!

I really like the hot air balloons, and maybe it is the balloons that made me think of sky and clouds. Maybe you can name it Stairway to Heaven.
Love the drunkards path quilt. Definitely a lot of movement; that's the first think I thought when I saw it. Never noticed you trimmed them to rectangles. Beautiful.
I saw something at the weekend on the Sewing Quarter schedule about it being your last show but I thought it meant last for the year but clearly not. I need to go and see what you're up to next.
Thanks for the idea about Stitchperation's projects as my daughter got the book Big Magic for Christmas and now she's decided to start cross stitch, which is the one craft I don't do?! Typical! I am very pleased that she's decided to finally do something crafty after 20 years of me trying with her. The irony is also that I have had Big Magic for years!! Kids, who'd 'av em??! 😃
The hot air balloons are so cute! And I laughed out loud when I read your daughter thought the second quilt looked like stairs. It looks like ribbons to me. :-)
