There's nothing quite as frightening as taking a pair of scissors to cut into something you've sewn! The results of doing reverse appliqué make that trepidation well worth it though.
This is the Tree Pillow, pattern from the book Sewing by Heart by Tone Finnanger, made for Sewing Quarter.
It's a lovely folk design, with birds and lots of curves; circles, flowers and leaves. I used two layers of cream cotton over the Sigrid Plum print from the Tilda Cottage Collection.
This meant the design only showed through the reverse appliqué areas that I cut away. It also gave enough stability to the cushion that it didn't really need quilting. I was really pleased with the result!
My next project was a quilt created using a jelly roll of Night Music by Amy Butler and inspired by the Merry Go Round quilt pattern from the book 25 Ways to Sew Jelly Rolls, Layer Cakes & Charm Packs by Brioni Greenberg. I used the Creative Grids Starburst ruler to make the blocks.
Amy Butler's florals are so beautiful. The colours in this collection are really pretty and I like that it includes quite a lot of navy too, the darkness sets off the brighter pinks and yellows.
I quilted concentric circles, slightly overlapping, which created a nice pattern on the back too.
The borders and binding were also from the jelly roll, I tried to use mostly darker prints for the binding. That's my fourth quilt finish already this year!

Your reverse applique is beautiful. I'd like to try that technique someday.
I am really in terested in your reverse applique, that is wonderful.
I did some reverse applique in a class, but never really "took" to the technique. Your pillow turned out beautifully!!
Your tree pillow looks lovely, it's technique I haven't tried before, hmmmmmmm. Love your scissors by the way, scissor envy, beautiful. I haven't seen any like that in the UK.
