It is always good to challenge yourself with different techniques. This table runner has y-seams, angled edges and a few points to keep pointy. Funnily the thing that I struggled with the most was the self cover button, turns out I had the back piece the wrong way round!
The pattern is Stars at Night Are Big & Bright from Quilts Made with Rulers Book by Annie's. I used the Creative Grids 120° ruler, which made cutting easy and accurate. I love the shape of this table runner and also really like Natasha's suggestion of making individual blocks for placemats!
The fabric prints are from Confetti by Rachel Cave for Dashwood Studio, mixed with Linea by Makower. Fussy cut flowers made cute buttons! I have to say (once I realised how to make sure the back was on the correct way) the Milward self cover buttons are so simple and you don't need huge amounts of pressure to get them pressed together. I will definitely be using those again and making this table runner reminded me that not all quilts have to be square! You can watch my Sewing Quarter demo here.
I also made a mini quilt using fabric from the same Dashwood collection mixed with solids. This one has a softer look and I love those little pops of black from the flowers.
This pattern is Hourglass Quilt from Little Quilts and Gifts from Jelly Roll Scraps by Carolyn Forster. A nice book for gift ideas and for when you want a satisfying little project to finish as you work on bigger quilts.
I played about with machine stitches for the quilting design on the mini. Simple rows showing off stitches that echo shapes within the fabric print.
The mischief jumped up on the table as I was sewing so there's a line that's slightly askew. When you're this cute it's easy to forgive though... even when you constantly photo bomb! Teddy (our new to us cat) has been settling in really well and she's happy to go outside now, which is great. She does still seem to think she's a dog and is constantly wagging her tail.
