The good:
I finished my class sample projects and am utterly thrilled with them. I will show them all fully when my class schedule is announced. There's a really fun quilt design I created and managed to finish sewing the binding on that last night. I also finished up a super pretty and useful make that I embroidered:
Can't wait to show you them all in full!
The kids and I have been baking. First some courgette muffins that Lois managed to sneakily devour (that's what happens when mummy is sewing and not paying attention. Oops!) :
And then we made some really yummy homemade granola, I use Lily Pebbles 'Breakfast and Dessert Oats'. It is quick, with simple ingredients and you can add whatever you like into it. I don't grind the almonds, I just use sliced ones and sometimes smush the bag up before I open it so they aren't so big. I add raisins after cooking it.
The kids love this just as a snack on it's own, with yoghurt for pudding or breakfast. They aren't usually big fans of cinnamon and there's a lot in this recipe but somehow they still love it! They have told me they like it more than the shop bought granola. I also use organic ingredients and it's still super cheap. Healthy and easy to make :)
The bad:
I was attempting to make another project as a class sample and I failed epically. Yesterday evening I just gave up on it (and then funnily read this blog post by Angie, so good to know I'm not alone). It was stressing me out, my ideas weren't working, I ended up in tears. I had a chat with hubbie and realised if I'm not even enjoying making it why would I want to teach it?! So I just gave up. It felt so good. It was a relief and now I can concentrate on other things without worrying. Sometimes giving up is not a bad thing.
The exhausting:
I have a horrible summer cold and three energetic children at home ALL day. Enough said.

That muffin photo!!! I have a 5 year old, 3 year old, and a newborn so that occurrence is all too common in our house! Just this morning, my 3 year old discovered how to open the lock on the refrigerator and ate a good handful of dark chocolate covered macadamia nuts for breakfast. Fabulous. Your embroidery is gorgeous, too. I look forward to seeing it in its entirety.
Ditto on the summer cold. The muffins! Hilarious!
When my twins were small I went to answer the phone and came back to find they had sampled every one of two dozen buns ! So green tea wip and maybe a cup if green tea for you too ?
Your embroidery is fantastic - just love it! Laughing at the muffin photo and remembering when my daughter was that age. She didn't take food off the counter, but loved locking herself in the wire rabbit cage with our Angora rabbit. Made her look like a hostage....LOL... :o)
Lovely hand stitching. I admire anyone who can hand stitch. I'm terrible at it! Love how your daughter sampled your goodies in advance. Reminds me of a time when I was much, much younger (but older than your daughter), while my mom was out shopping I 'sampled' the frosting off an entire cake....one finger full at a time. Boy was she mad at me when she got home!
Thank goodness she doesn't have longer arms (and didn't think to drag a chair over to the worktop) or you'd have none left intact!
P.S. Any chance of the courgette muffin recipe? Pretty please?
Can't wait to see the finishes! And good for you on just stopping when it wasn't working. Sometimes that's the hardest thing to do but ultimately the best for you.
Fantastic embroidery! Love it!
you dont half get some superb photos of you kids! granola looks awesome :-)
Get well soon! xx
Oh I just love that phot of Lois and the muffins! What a smart girl to only eat the best part of each muffin: the top! xo
Sorry about the summer cold! Its always worse than a winter one, don't you think! I'm glad, that from the bad, you learnt a valuable lesson! I say the same thing to my students about the novels they read- if you are not enjoying it, give up; there are too many great books out there to persist with one you don't like! Your muffin taster does look rather guilty!
Sorry you are poorly, and still chasing three children... Hope you feel better soon.
xx
Love the embroidery on a darker background!
Hi Lucy! Thanks for sharing a link to my post. I'm glad it helped you walk away from something that wasn't working (your husband is a wise man!). We've had a similar week here so I completely understand. Can't wait to see what else is in your future ;) :)
The muffin pic is priceless. Class prep so much more time consuming than you imagine, no idea how you pull it off with 3 little uns too. I also make my own granola (Earthbound Farm recipe)but will check out yours. My wee Ava calls it grolalla.xx

I want these muffins! Lois is so cheeky - she so knows she is eaten them all! I totally understand about giving up, I did it with the blog, and it helped me immensely to know I could leave - and in fact it helped focus my energy on other things, and then have a new vision for it... Maybe you will get another class idea soon, just let it happen in its own time. Sometimes we try too hard to have ideas all the time - but I am not sure our brains work in that way!
I love homemade granola, I use a recipe from the Christmas book by Nigella and have often made up large jars as simple gifts too. x
