This is the fifteenth challenge link at le challenge, which means I've successfully finished fourteen makes since we started, but this time... well you've probably already guessed... I have no completed project to share.
I was exciting by the theme 'era' and had lots of ideas but it's been such a busy summer (blah, blah, excuses, excuses!), I had grand plans but as time ran on I realised they were not feasible and I just couldn't find the love for hurriedly cobbling something together.
So instead I made a start and finished the first block of the Green Tea and Sweet Beans pattern by Jen Kingwell.
The fabrics I'm using are mostly 1930s reproduction, though I think this block looks a bit 1950s too. The fabric on the bottom left corner was given to me by my wonderful cousin in America, I absolutely adore the print and have been saving it for a special project. I think this hand sewn pattern is the perfect way to use up my most loved vintage scraps.
So there you have it, the first fail for me. Ok not a fail but this wouldn't count if I was actually linking up to le challenge. Since Nat will be having her baby towards the end of this year, we've agreed we are both allowed a couple of passes and this is mine.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone else's actual finishes and if you've made anything over the past two months that fits the theme 'era' in any way then feel free to come and link up your finished project. A random winner gets a $25 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop as well as a special giveaway this month of 10 FQs of vintage sheets from Mary Emmens.
Hop over and check it out!

Ah Lucy I'd say that's a pretty good start, well done.
Very good start! Love the block.
Lovely start! The end of summer really snuck up on us, eh?
15 link ups?? Is that possible? Love your little thirties block - the start of something great :)
I love getting involved with all of the contests and sewalongs on the blog scene. But we all need to bow out once in a while. After all, they're supposed to be fun, and succumbing to panic sewing to make a deadline is no fun! I love the fabrics you chose here, and Comma is the perfect backdrop for them. (I keep buying it compulsively and will cry when it's no longer in production!) Can't wait to see what this single block transforms into!
The fact that you haven't got a "finish" just proves that you are as human as the rest of us. I love your block - the fabrics are great and I can't wait to see the finished article.
Love your fabric choices. My first thought was 50s, not 30s
The block looks fantastic, and no way something so lovely is a fail. :)
I think it counts it is a finished block! Hand sewn at that! My hat is off to you! I am using my machine!
Oh, you've started! I'm still umming and aahing over fabrics. To be honest I'm accumulating projects so GTSB may be on the to do list for some time. Great start!
love the block, i'm finished mine and just need to link up after work tonight
It's a very pretty block! And using lots of beautiful vintage scraps is a thing to enjoy, so don't rush it!
It's gorgeous!
such a sweet little block, and what an amazing project to be starting.
It is not a finish but it is a great block, and totally goes with the theme!
I should check how many did I try as well :) Someone told me about Le challenge on my Friday finish as it fitted the theme and I continued and enjoyed it ever since.
A good start is always better than a Sloppy Finish - so bravo. I noticed when I was making my 30's quilt that some of the fabric seems a bit 50ish. In the end they always are beautiful.
Not a fail, Lucy, just being human. I am excited that you are doing the Jen Kingwell pattern. I made a pillow with one of her patterns once but I'm not much into hand sewing and actually pieced it by machine. Do you need any more scraps for it? I'm sure I have plenty 30s fabrics I could share. They are my favorite and yet I have never finished one quilt made with them, although I nobly attempted the farmers wife quilt when I first learned to sew. It was way above my skill level back then but if I ever get back to it I know I could rock most of the blocks;)
