I have a little finish today but I'm warning you that with it comes a tale of the reality of motherhood that might be too much information.
I made a zip bag for my girls to keep their hair clips and bobbles in. It seemed totally appropriate to make it using bow tie quilt blocks. The tutorial I used has three useful sizes for this block and each block I made is 3".
The back uses more of some sweet butterfly fabric that Sheila kindly sent me, the inside is lined with a sweet gauze fabric and the zip was won in a giveaway (ages ago!) from Hadley. To give the bag a little bit of structure I used some budget heavyweight interfacing - I've used this in a few projects and while it doesn't bond as well as more expensive brand products it is just fine for this sort of thing and a great price. I also used it when I made clutch bags and it worked nicely to add support.
And why the need for a little bag? Well I was using one of those free make up bags to store their hair accessories but since a stomach bug has swept through my house there was an incident. The little one was happily carrying the bag around and then out of nowhere vomited on it, in it... just all over it. Once she was cleaned and happy I had to debate whether to just throw it all out but I couldn't bring myself to waste all those lovely hair clips (nevermind the fact I'd bought a load of new clips just the other day!). So I washed the contents of her stomach off them, left them to dry and ditched the bag. The clips were saved and a new bag was constructed. Told you it was too much information.
On to nicer things.
I've started working on last months English Country Garden BOM. I need to find time in the day when the little one is napping and not vomiting so I can concentrate and attempt to use monofilament thread - I daren't try in bad evening light.
I also need to decide what project I will be making/finishing for next weeks link up at le challenge. The link opens on the 15th May (actually the 14th to give time for the world to enter!) and the theme is 'nature'.
If you've finished anything recently that fits the theme remember to join us for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop!

oh, ick! the stomach bug has been through here, too - my youngest has had it 3 times. congrats on bringing some beauty to an otherwise unpleasant situation :)
My pre-child self never could have envisioned how much vomit I'd be cleaning up as a mother. I can soooo relate to your story! Kudos to you for turning an icky situation into something pretty!
I hope you're all feeling OK today - that kind of thing can take out a full house in no time.
ahh, the joys of vomit. Did you do that thing where you tried to catch it as it came out of her mouth?
Oh vomit!! The new bag is very pretty though!
Ah, the joys of motherhood! I think I would have done the same! I bet they as good as new! I hope the sickies are better too!
Ooh you do it differently to me, I put all the pieces down and go around just the visible edges, rather than piece by piece :)
If that happens again I'd be tempted to put the who bag zipped up including contents into the washing machine!
what a lovely story! Cute little bag. I want to join in Kerry's BOM too, I just haven't found the time yet, her technique is excellent - she showed me in person. I feel I should tell a vomit story too, which would put Kerry off dumping the whole thing in the washer.... my other half used to work for a small company that did shopfitting, when they did a site on the Isle of Wight, the MD decided they should fly in his small plane. He let my OH fly for a bit, which was when he (the OH) puked everywhere, all over himself! When he got home, he dumped all his clothes in the washer and turned it on. He didn't rinse them first. Can you guess what I found in the washer later? yep, washed puke is still puke!
cute bag. hope you are all puke free now x
aaaargh! we were on a trip one time and my middle child, out of nowhere, threw up all over the back of the car, brother, sister, and all the gubbins! I threw out as much stuff as I could, unfortunately including a pair of ballet shoes, needed by my eldest for an exam the next week...
Ballet shoes should be broken in a bit, but Brand New ones were worn... Bad Mother...
These things happen, and it is Mother's lot to sort it all out! Yuck!
Oh no! Handy little bag then ☺
Vomiting bugs suck. Good save on the hair clips and bobbles though. And I love the new bag.
The stomach bug is the worst.thing.ever.
Oh dear! We've had a week like that too... At least it was in the bag and not on you (or, as on one memorable occasion, in your mouth!)
When we were kids we were so car sick we used to drive with buckets in the car and changes of clothes . My poor parents!
Haa Ha , that is such a funny story! I bet the new bag is much cuter than the last bag would've been.
the idea that "it can be washed" has saved me many headache and heartache as a mum. good call! and nice new bag, too.
It could have been worse...it could have been the contents of her nappy that ended up on the clips!!
