I've made progress on the ottoman. I've managed to do my first lapped zip (that's what it's called on the pattern but it sounds wrong to me - what do we call that in the UK?), I felt very proud.
I kept looking at the centre of the hexagon quilting I did on the top and feeling that it needed something adding to it. I thought about appliqué but wasn't sure what would work, I thought about embroidery but couldn't find a pattern I liked that would fit (or be bothered drawing one!). Then I remembered I had some DMC soluble canvas and thought cross stitch would be fun. I looked through Anna Maria's Needleworks Notebook - which I love but it wasn't the vibe I wanted for this project. I checked out a bunch of wonderful Etsy sites with cute kawaii cross stitch patterns, pixel patterns etc but again it didn't feel right. I wanted something that 'meant' something, after all I will be seeing this piece of furniture every day. And then it hit me. I'm not showing you what I'm stitching though, sorry! It will be part of the grand reveal when I'm done!
Today I needed a stitching break... MUST wear thimble Lucy. So I started playing. Pretty don't you think?

Very pretty! And I've never heard it called that - I always called it a covered zipper. :D
I think Sarah's right - I'm pretty sure it's called a covered zip... great job anyway!
yes your playing is very pretty and can't wait to see what you've got planned for your secret stitchy project
Can't wait to see what you're doing! And so funny - I'm working on modern log cabin blocks too! :-). Yours are beautiful.
Intriguing!
I think there may be several names for that zip finish.. I would happily call it a concealed zip, but I am not sure how 'correct' that is..
yes concealed zip is how Ive always known them called too : )
Ohh a mystery, now we're on the edge of our seats. I love your colourful play blocks.
Any day playing with pretty fabric is a good day!
oooh - you tease!
Very pretty!!
Wow! With that color combo, I'm sure it will be gorgeous!!
Very pretty playing! Can't wait to see your stitching!
Oh the suspense!
Very pretty, with a concealed zip
Hhmm I've always called it a laped zip, a concealed zip to me is the same thing as an invisible zip, but who knows and what does it really matter! What does matter is showing us what you've been stitching!
I love the colour combination on the ottoman. A bit of playing with fabric is therapy. I did a bit yesterday too with teeny tiny paper piecing; well, it was tiny for me. I can't wait for the grand reveal.
That zip looks awesome, I'm so impressed! Can't wait for the stitching reveal!
Oh where did you get that soluble canvas? Sounds awesome! Cannot wait to see the final reveal!
I can't wait to see this!!
Ooh, an ottoman? Can't wait to see the reveal! My mom used to keep soluble canvas and make us all fleece blankets with our names cross-stitched on them. I haven't thought about it in years since I haven't cross-stitched in years. Oh, the possibilities it opens up.
