No I haven't been out raving (ahh the good old Sankeys days) but I have hooked up my cone of Aurifil using this simple tutorial.
It's worked brilliantly for piecing and I will be testing it for quilting tomorrow.
I got my Aurifil 50 wt cone in 2021 from Fluffy Sheep Quilting and her prices mean it is better value than buying individual spools. I know the spools last for ages so it'll be interesting to see how much sewing I get done with this. Maybe check with me in a year?!
Hope those of you in the UK had a fun Bonfire Night! I've been enjoying writing my name with sparklers!

I am a new aurifil addict and I would really like a cone. Will definitely need a cone holder though... I'll be interested to see how long it lasts you. I reckon I've gone through at least 10,000 metres of thread already this year, but that covered a number of different colours...
That is genius, thanks for the tip, I have a cone and have never gotten round to using it on my machine for this very reason! :o). x
Oh I've been wondering how to use a huge spool. I will await your report on how it works for quilting too. And Cindy's prices are the best for Aurifil. Always buy mine from her.
A regular spool seems to last forever- this one might see you through to 2015!
industrial sewing! is aurifil used for more than actual quilting?
That is a lot of thread!
Oh my goodness, what a fantastic tute, I love clever and free solutions like this. Happy sewing :)
Ahh I was just thinking the other day how much I love a new spool of cotton.
I found one that I had stashed away, clever me!
Strange what gets us quilters excited x
thankyou for the links, I have only just started using spools.
I bought one of those from Cindy in June last year, I use it all the time (whenever I can get away with a neutral thread) and it still has plenty left on it!
I think it will last you a while.
Good to know!! Love the title of that CD, by the way....
I particularly like the CD underneath ;o)
Look at you rockin' that spool. Love it :)
This is genius Lucy, thanks for the link!!
