As many of you (mums!) know, it was World Book Day yesterday and the kids at school got to dress up as their favourite characters. My son chose a dinosaur from a story he loves and of course my eldest daughter wanted the same (oh my, I will have to be making 3 of everything soon enough!! Those of you that already do have my respect!!). Here are the two dinosaur tails I made using Jessica's fabulous tutorial:
I let the kids pick the fabrics - he went pretty neutral and cleverly coordinated with his dinosaur hoody (seriously HE chose them, the boy has style!!) and she picked a prettier vintage sheet :)
They very much LOVE them!
Probably not the most practical costume for school in reality, although his teacher did say she was amused seeing how many kids he bumped with his tail!
They have also been asking for pirate eye patches, after playing pirates at a friend's house. Well I'm skint and do not want to trawl the shops for such things so I made them. A quick sketch of a skull and crossbones, a bit of back stitch on some felt, more felt to cover the back and hide the knot of the elastic, crude rustic blanket stitch round the edges = two happy pirates!

Oh, those are awesome, Lucy! If my granddaughter sees them, I'm in trouble..... she'd want one of each! Whoop whoop!!
I thought my dressing up making was over until my eldest insisted that she did indeed want the pirate costume on her Christmas list! She is 19!

Awesome dino tales!! I want one for me!! Can't you just imagine wandering around the neighbourhood as a dinosaur family??? Ok. I know I'm crazy. Maybe one to wear around the house when no one is watching anyway.

These are wonderful! I so miss making Easter bonnets and fancy dress and sewing fairy costumes past midnight on Christmas Eve!

These dinosaur tails look fabulous - my daughter used to have a green one from the Wiggles "Dorothy the Dinosuar" which she loved!

Haha, I just took Eloise to the charity shop for hers, but then I do have a vintage sheet that has t be turned into a Victorian dress for her by Tuesday for their class topic day, so I reckon I was allowed to dip out of book day!

Hope you don't mind, but I've pinned the pirate eye patches... a brilliant idea. I'm not surprised the kids loved the dinosaur tails. I know some little people that would love them, too, but they just might have to settle for pirate eye patches.
Naw your such a good Mum! My daughters class celebrated World Literacy Day on Tuesday with a heroes and villains theme and I had no notice or time to make anything! Luckily a friend had a Dracula cape Amelia borrowed. Working 4 days a week plus three kids makes it so hard to do these sorts of mummy things. I did love the five years I got to spend at home with them!
