Kristy at Quiet Play and Alyce at Blossom Heart Quilts are sharing 25 (FREE!) Christmas-themed block patterns!
You can find the patterns in their Craftsy stores. They are free for the month of November. Paper pieced patterns are here and Ornamental patterns are here. Get them while you can and see what wonderful Christmas things you can create!
I decided to pick one of the paper pieced patterns, since I've been having a go at it recently and am enjoying trying different patterns. I got the lovely Christmas star... and since I have too many quilts on the go I wanted to think of something practical I would use and love. I came up with this notebook cover:
Now it doesn't look too Christmassy (not great for a seasonal blog hop - sorry!!) because I have no Christmas fabric left and I chose instead to use up some of my favourite scraps. I also only had the most giant notebook to hand so it's ridiculously big!
My idea though is that you could easily use one of the 5" blocks to make a fun Christmas notebook cover and get yourself really organised with a place for gift and card lists, addresses and when the time comes 'who received what from whom' so you can write your thank yous!
They would also make cute gifts because who doesn't love a notebook?!
I used this tutorial from Stitched In Color as a guide, although I had to work out the measurements and maths is really not my strong point! It came together well though and I loved picking out fabrics that make me smile.
I also embroidered 'Starry Starry Night' onto the cover, which actually makes it look like a book. I used this wonderful variegated thread that my Nanny gave me, I love the retro labels!
Be sure to check out Rebecca's blog today to see her gorgeous cushions!
And for more inspiration here's a list of all the bloggers taking part:
Sew Seasonal Blog Hop
2nd November: TBA & Jane from Where Jane Creates
13th November: Gemma from Pretty Bobbins
Now it's your turn! Download the patterns (they'll be free for the duration of the blog hop!) and make one or more of the blocks to create a finished product. Anything you like, as long as it's completely, 100% finished! Then come back here on November 30th to link up your finished product to win some awesome prizes! There's also a Flickr group for the blog hop, where you can share your blocks as you finish them. Show off your progress, and be in the running for a prize there too. That's 2 different ways to win prizes!
And what are these fabulous prizes?! Well, so far we have:

Love it! Your embroidery is so beautiful and neat (little bit of stitch envy here!). Such a great idea! Might not be Christmas fabric but it's a great idea for a Chrissy pressie!
I think it's lovely, christmassy or not!
Love the star! And the book cover is perfect for it!
It's lovely - beautiful syitching, as always!
As always, you come up with a brilliant make. Love the stitching.
I love journal notebooks and that star is perfect on it! Love the Tula pink for a Van Gogh style sky - looks great!
The star and embroidery look great! You really get so much done each day!
That is very cool book cover, I can see one of these in my future :)
Your notebook cover is lovely, I really like the variegated thread for the embroidery too.
lovely notebook! It is nicely festive, but not so Christmasy that you can't keep using it after Dec 25th. isn't it great to be able to use what you have on hand instead of rushing off to buy something else?
Very nice Lucy.
It is lovely, now I have the song in my head. And the fabric reminds me of the painting too.
Such a lovely notebook, your star is lovely
I am digging that old floss label too.
It's beautiful and I love it because it isn't Chrismassy - you'll be able to use it all year round. Beuatiful.
A very classy Christmas make! I've now got the Don McLean song going round my head :D
I think it's beautiful in those fabrics and it'll be just as lovely and useful all year round :)
Really pretty - festive, but nice and subtle!
Cool notebook cover, Lucy! :) xo
It's really cute, Lucy and would make a great gift!
Great notebook! And it looks Christmassy enough to me. Beautiful embroidery as well!
I love how it looks like a book - very cool!
