Firstly I took this picture and then realised how many of the elements were handmade and I love that it all gets used (just to be clear my children don't sleep on the floor, this was playing!)
Secondly I was talking with my husband about who we'd invite to a imaginary dinner party (and it would have to be since we never have any!!). Here's who I'd choose:
- Paul Newman - my hero for many reasons, read some of what he's said here and you'll know why... one of my favourite quotes would be this one: People stay married because they want to, not because the doors are locked.
- Johnny Cash - just awesome
- June Carter Cash - bet she has some stories
- Fred Astaire - just love him
- Maya Angelou - my favourite poet
- Oprah Winfrey - I just have a feeling I could talk to her forever
- Drew Barrymore - love
- Ryan Gosling - clearly I don't need a reason but, if you haven't seen it already, this really helps.
**my daughter just saw a picture of Ryan and said 'he looks like Daddy', now you know why I'm so happily married!! ;) **
I believe that was the order I 'invited' them in!! Ryan was a bit late to my party but it suddenly occurred to me how brilliant he is and wouldn't it be cool for him to meet Paul Newman, since in my opinion he is destined to be as amazing. As my husband put it Paul could pass Ryan the torch.
Watch both these films... then watch 'Crazy, Stupid, Love.' - awful name, hilarious film!
Now clearly this list would change depending on my mood or what day it is but I do love these folk and an evening with them would be awesome sauce.
So who'd be at your imaginary dinner??

That photo is precious! And this is why I get annoyed when the Mr. puts the quilts away...how will anyone be inspired to make a quilt fort with no quilts to entice them? Ryan Gosling hunh...how about I stop by for that dinner as well!
Great topic...and aren't your boys sweet! George Clooney would definitely be the first invited, Princess Di could tell some interesting story and Mary @ Molly Flanders! And Ryan could drop in to even up the party!
I LOVE that first picture! Brilliant.. Would have Mark Foster for dinner - I think I just love watching the Olympics because of him. My husband would have Linford Christie, his hero; probably have Picasso my favourite painter, Vivianne Westwood - crazy creative - Coco Chanel, JFK, and Churchill. I am thinking this may be hard to place at a table...
What a gorgeous photo of all that lovely handmade goodness! Oh, the Cash's are a great choice - I'd have them too.
Sounds like a great dinner party! Have you seen http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0805564/ Its one of my absolute favourites :-) My dinner table (non existant!) guests would change every time you ask... James Stewart would be invited every time tho, love him to bits.
Great post Lucy and great list - Drew is the only one I might swap...for Benedict Cumberbatch. Eeek. Said it now. Love the homemade lovelies!
Yay for using all your items. Invite people for dinner though? Even my imagination isn't up to clearing off my sewing/dining table for that one this morning...
That Gosling guy looks like a baby! (I hope your husband is old enough to drive?)
Sad to say I don't share your taste in dinner guests.
There is in my opinion a serious lack of 'bad boys' around your table *lol*
I would invite Jack Nicholson and Billy Connolly - put Gordon Ramsay in the kitchen (we will need some food) and have Leonard Cohen come over later to play for us when we have finished laughing, got a bit drunk and need a bit of reflection time.
If I had a bigger home I would invite Bette Midler too - but luckily I live small, so I would be the only woman.
Could I borrow that blanket? Leonard needs it for his cold feet;-))
omg save me a seat, johnny and june cash, oh wow, I must have watched walk the line about 20 million times! Oh and of course I have watched every single Ryan Gosling film, for research purposes only of course ;-)
Your first picture is so much fun! And I love the dinner table guest list. Such a fun idea. One of my teacher friends had her kids do a project every year where they had to do the invitation and make the menu, and then had to think of the following people to invite: an actor/actress, author, sports figure, someone they admired, someone they wanted to meet but no longer living, etc. I often think of my own party that way. I'll post a list one of these days. Thanks for linking up!
Your kids are adorable. Love the photo of all of your handmade goodies. There are many covering our house too! How far apart will the new baby and your youngest be?
cute post : )
I'd like to be a fly on the wall at your dinner. LOVE the picture of your family and the things you've made.
What a sweet picture of the kiddos! I am with you on Paul Newman, The Cash X2 and, of course, Ryan! I think if I had to have a dinner right now....I would invite all my bloggy friends{Susan@Patchwork n Play of course} and friends at work PLUS the entire cast of Downton Abbey {and my hubby because he loves Downton}. I can't wait for the new season...so I would be wrestling details out of them! LOL!
George, just George....nobody else at all!
Damn you Lucy! You got me sucked into that Ryan Gosling website again!
Your dinner party sounds delicious!
Apparently my office's web filter says the handmaderyangosling tumbler is off limits - it has been labeled as adult/mature content! Adult indeed! ;)
Fun post. My daughter actually has been sleeping on the floor. She has been "camping" in the living room. Sleeping bags and all.
Awww, what a sweet photo!!
Imaginary dinner party? Do I get an imaginary cook and butler as well or do I have to serve toast to the great and the good?!
My dinner party would be an intimate meal for two: just me and Johnny Wilkinson, ha ha (I wish)
Its brilliant when you see things that you have made being used
Cute family pic x
Cary Grant, Harrison Ford and Michael Stipe any evening x
How great is that? I love that your life is filled with handmade goodies that are well used and loved.
We used to have camp outs just like that on Sat mornings. So fun!
That's so lovely that your family uses so many handmade things on a daily basis! That's just fantastic!
I would like to come to your dinner party and sit next to Ryan please... Thank you!
Following up from Mary why not move the party to Downton Abbey! And make sure Paul has some of his sauce!?
The kids could join in and make camps in the withdrawing room! Brilliant - but I want to come too!
Love that first pic-- there's nothing like knowing that your kiddos love and appreciate your handmade items!
I love it! Look at all of those handsewn projects! I fully support sleeping on the floor with a quilt. One of the great benefits of spending the night at my grandmother's as a child was having pallet parties in the living room where we slept on my great-grandmother's quilts :-)
