Sometimes things don't work out the way you planned. I like to dream but not all of them can come true. That fact makes me glum. Facing reality can suck. Everything's good but still I was hoping for a change that just isn't going to happen. So glumness ensued.
I'm not getting into it but just in case you were thinking I'm always happy I wanted to let you know I'm not. I can be glum.
That out of the way there's been some good sewing going on despite the glum (sorry I just can't think of a better word to describe it!!). I got two blocks done this weekend.
Firstly, and thank goodness, I finally managed to do a Bee Blessed block. I had some failed attempts last month and didn't get my act together in time. When I saw Judith's too cute Pippy Longstocking I knew I had to give it a go! So here's my not-so-Pippy version using up my scraps!
Ok she randomly has one foot slightly bigger than the other but no one's perfect!! This was made super easy by the great tutorial and came together really quickly. Thank you Judith :)
I also made my Blogger's Block of the Month, this month the tutorial was done by Amy at Diary of a Quilter
I LOVE this block, so pretty and easy to do... if you're concentrating. I think the glum got the better of me and somehow I did this, twice!:
Silly!! Anyway nothing a bit of unpicking couldn't take care of!
Some good stuff has happened. My cousin gave me some great vintage sheets that were my Great Aunts. I've never used sheets before but I can certainly see me using some of these as backings for quilts. I know some people don't like to use anything but good quality cotton but hey, we can't all afford that and I have no personal hatred for a bit of polyester mix.
These are my favourites:
The amazing Heather certainly brightened things up for me when she very kindly sent me a Hera marker!! I can't wait to try it :) Thank you so much Heather, I'm on the lookout for something to send you in return!
Finally another reminder that I'm hosting a link party, where we can swap fat quarters of fabric, I hope you'll join in :)
Currently just trying not to be swallowed up by glumness. I'm sure we all have those times.
I'm linking up with Megan and if you've come from there I'm not always this down I promise!!

The vintage sheets look awesome!! I've been on the lookout for a decent sheet to use to back my Sparkle quilt and haven't had luck yet. I'm not totally opposed to a poly blend either but the ones I've seen so far have felt kind of icky and/or look really thin. I used a sheet for the back of Owen's quilt and it worked great!!
The new blocks look great Lucy.
Hope your glum-ness leaves soon. We want the perky Lucy back. :)
Your Pippy version is cute. Those vintage sheets will be very useful I guess. I do hope that the glum feeling lifts. Being glum is no fun and can drag you down. Di xo
Love your Pippi, Lucy, hope she helped a wee bit to lift the glum - life sometimes overtakes us, it'll brighten again.x
Well you know I do glum too - and rants. Can't be helped at times. But gifts of vintage sheets, cool pippi blocks and fellow bloggers always make me smile. Hope life stops the crap soon and you can get back to cheery.
Oh Lucy I'm so sorry you are glum. I wish I could give you a hug. Damn the ocean for being in the way. Just imagine I'm there with fresh cookies, a fat quarter surprise, two ears for listening and arms for hugging. Mwah!!!! - B
Oh don't be glum my friend! Hope good things will happen soon - here with an ear if you need it! xxx
Yes, I do think that happens to us all for sure, at least me. A Hera marker--I have always wanted one of those. And belated happy birthday!
I love the bright green in your blocks and the funky sheets- hopefully they'll help cheer you up. I've got a great collection of bright socks to wear with boots - no-one else can see but they make me feel brighter too!
Loving the blocks!! I recently got some vintage sheets from a charity shop....they are still in the wash basket. If its as windy as it was today, tomorrow I'll wash them and put them outside.
Can;t wait for the swap. I have a bundle of FQ's cut and ready to go....will be adding more once I wash the sheets....The fabric doesn't have to be designer does it.....?
So sorry things are crap right now - but you are most definitely allowed to have those days once in a while! I get them once a month! :-) Your blocks really do look good though! And I love using sheets for backings.
Sorry for your glum-ness and things not working out the way you hoped. I have some DS leftover from my FW blocks that are looking for a new ( as opposed to a stale) home!! Should be fun!
Love the blocks! And the vintage sheets... especially the black and white floral!
Ummm... whats a Hera Marker? I'm curious! And I am a craft/fabric hoarder ;) But I do actually use the things that I "hoard"... usually :)

I love that Pippy block! It's so cute!!
I like that Pippi isn't perfect. SO sorry that you've been a bit glum but I hope things are better very soon.
I know that glum feeling. Ugh! I hope you are not feeling glum by your Pippi though. I LOVE Pippi and as we've watched it recently, I know that she wears mismatched everything, including stocking and too big shoes. Great job, Lucy! Sending you good vibes and sunshine. :)
Lucy, sorry you are feeling so glum :( Hope the sun shines on you and makes you feel lots better soon ;)
Sorry to hear you are glum. Your right - sometimes things just don't work out as we'd hoped. Love your sheets though and your pippi block :)
Big hug from me Lucy - also got ears if you fancy a good old rant! I find it helps to get cross and kick that glum into the stratosphere!
On the other hand great sheets - I am collecting a little vintage sheet hoard myself for a bit of HST fun with solids a la Red Pepper Quilts! Not just for backs - for tops too!
Seems to be like this for a lot of people at the moment, I know it's hard, but keep smiling (and crafting)!!!! Lots of love xx
yes we all get consumed by the glumness so big hugs! love your pippi block mine ended up with an afro so am unsure what the plan is now! lovely sheets and a great wee gift too. x
Aww, man, sorry about the glum :o( (that's such an onomatopoeic word btw)
Love your wee girl though, and your BOM turned out great despite its trials and tribulations. Have fun with your sheets :o)
The Pippy block is so cute! I love your new vintage sheets, especially the black and white ones. I hope things get better for you soon!
I think your Pippi looks happy and cheerful! And I love those vintage sheets - yum! Hope you pick up again soon. Jxo
Love the blocks and the vinbtage sheets! I hope your glum lifts soon.
Sorry about the glum-inducing realities... ;-/ Glad some good things happened to help you through!
A bit of fun sewing always cheers me up and gets my mind off of the glummies. I ADORE your Pippi block!! I hope your fab blocks cheered you a little and sorry you didn't get the change you were hoping for, but in the end, maybe there is a better change ahead that you would have missed it this one would have worked out. xxoo
Love Pippi and the sheets (sounds like a bad band!!), the black and white one is particularly nice! Hope your glums dissipate soon - let me know if I can help x
ooww don't worry, we all get those glum days :) some more sewing will cheer you up I'm sure! love the design of the bloggers BOM, you paper piecing is great too - well done! xo

Aren't you talented! Even when you're 'glum' you're able to create beautiful things. I love the vintage sheets too. Hope you're all happy again soon.
