I'm linking up to the marvelous Rebecca and her creative Thursday Think Tank:
I've noticed a lot of people in blog land have been organising their fabric, making room for the new and picking fabrics for all the lovely projects and QALs that are about. There's also been gushing over beautiful new lines and undoubtedly at least some of you are using fabrics you were given at Christmas, or got in the sales afterwards ;)
After little email conversations with both Erin and Susan an idea formed in my head (see how I'm partially blaming them already!!). I got to thinking about what will happen to that fabric. Maybe it'll get used in some practice fmq, or pieced into a quilt back, or used for practice blocks - or not.
What if you could give it to someone else, someone that might actually like it and use it?!
So I'm suggesting this:
Here's the idea - show us your fugly fabric! Ok it doesn't have to be really ugly - it could be any bits that you don't want anymore, you know you won't use it, you're sick of looking at it or you think it is actually ugly. Maybe you have a piece of fabric leftover from a quilt that you don't really need and can do without. Write a post and give it away!!
You can have a giveaway, a competition, a swap, offer to send it to anyone that will pay the postage - whatever you choose. I'll have a linky party and you can all have a look around other people's blogs seeing what fabric they have to offer and maybe find some gems! One person's trash is another's treasure (I hope!!).
You could offer really ugly fabric if you wanted (you probably wouldn't have many takers! *cough, cough*) or fabric that you just feel 'meh' about that someone else might really love.
I think nothing too scrappy, but decent sized scraps and pieces that are useable are ok and you could offer as little or as much as you like! Obviously good quilter's weight cotton only and not fabric that is utterly crap and no use to anyone.
There's no real rules, just come back here and link up your fugly fabric post and I can maybe offer a fabric prize (not a fugly one!) to giveaway to one of you :)
Would anyone join in (I won't be entering, it wouldn't feel right but I'd love to see some posts!)?? At the very least it might be a laugh, at best a wonderful exercise in good karma!
All too often I think we hang on to pieces of fabric we don't love so why not have a fresh start...
I was aiming to have the linky up and running on 7th February - it's a Tuesday (what a fugly day!! Sorry Erin, Tuesdays are just random so seemed like a good day to pick!) and have it up for about 6 days, in time for some Valentine's winners!
So let me know, should the fugly fabric party go ahead??
If you want to join in grab the button above and stick it on your blog, try to spread the word!! The more fugly fabric we can muster the better :)
**It seems like it's all go for the fugly fabric party! I've made a tab at the top so people can easily read about it!**

There's also been gushing over beautiful new lines and undoubtedly at least some of you are using fabrics you were given at Christmas, or got in the sales afterwards ;)
There's also that other fabric (Susan knows what I mean). The fabric that you might never use, the ones you used to love, the ones that you don't know why you bought, the fabric sitting there taunting you, or hiding away at the back of a drawer somewhere! We all have it, it's the fugly fabric.

I think that's a great idea! I suspect no one would want my fugly fabric - but, of course, that's probably what we all think :)
OMG Lucy! Tuesday 7th February is NOT a fugly day. You are in big trouble now missy. :(
(1) I think it is a brilliant idea and we obviously know I have some stuff to giveaway.
(2) What is the significance of Feb 7th. Spit it out!
Sounds great. I'm sure I could whip up some parcels of pure unadulterated fuglyness to pass along ;-)
Oh, I have some fugly fabric! Lots of fugly fabric! (I inherited my mom's stash and although some is wonderful, there is some down right FUGLY!!!) ;)
I'll be giving away all my stash in that case! Yeah! Room for nice and new at last! Already got the mental list....will need a reminder though Lucy!
Great idea! Count me in!
Sounds great, fugly fabric away with you!
Ahem....I may have some fugly fabric that I could part with, What a great idea!!
This is a great idea - you can count me in as well! I've got some fabrics I used to adore but I'm over now - to be sure, someone could use them!
Lol, love that idea. Although I've only been buying fabric in the last 6 months or so, so I don't really have any horrors!
Wow, this is a great idea.
My daughter and I were given 12 huge bags of fabric. We just went through them and gave away what we didn't want. Which ended up being 12 bags of fabric! LOL!! Great idea. Have fun playing.
This is so funny because I thought about doing this last year at this time, but I didn't have enough followers that I thought I could get the word out! I'm up to participate. Already getting fabric ready to "share" anyway, so I'll hold on to it until then.
Sounds good but my ugly fabric was given to me and I daren't put it on my blog in case it gets spotted...I'll just have to 'pass it on' some other way!!
I love the idea! I definitely have some shocking things from ages ago that would fit the bill. Hope someone will like it! I am hoping to de-clutter this year!
I think I might have a few things. I have a bunch of 12"x14" fabrics that a quilt friend gave me when I started sewing is that to small? I could make fugly piles of say 10 but they would not be all the same. They are fabric samples stores get to order. I will look around for others too.

Too funny, I doubt I have any f'ugly fabric, ahem, maybe a bit!
That sounds like so much fun! I might be tempted to participate.
AWESOME IDEA! Love love love it! So glad you linked it up to TTT too... I'll have to grab this button to spread the word. xo B
OMG. do I have some fugly fabric.
I know friends and family mean well when I am gifted with fabric, but I dont know how they all seem to buy the cheapest and fugliest stuff (is fugliest a word?).
I'm in! Posted your button on my blog and now I must wade through my fabric stash. I'm sure to find some doozies :)
this is both a genius idea and a hilarious one! CANNOT wait to see all the fugly!
if I can get my act together, I have plenty of fugly fabric, I will join in too.
I just posted the fugly button but I have no idea how to put it on the side of the blog. I have found a couple of piles of fabric for it. So I will be ready.
Blooming great idea! Will definitely be up for this if I can get organised...!
Hmmmm! Very interesting idea. I just might have a few bits of fugly that I won't be too sad to part with.
