I'm sad to say goodbye:
Yet thrilled to say HELLO JUDY!!
My mum very kindly gave me her Janome because she rarely uses it and knew it was better than mine. Great timing since the Toyota had clearly had enough :(
Really, this is what sewing machines are meant to sound like! A lovely whirr, not a violent clattering and whining noise.
A new (to me) machine calls for a new sewing cover doesn't it?!
After seeing the great cover Svetlana at s.o.t.a.k. handmade made, I used her tutorial.
It came together really quickly - I went for bigger scraps so mine doesn't really look like books but I didn't want to cut into some of them and, let's be honest, it was even quicker!!
I also used home dec weight fabric, left over from the girl's floor cushion, on the reverse side to make it a bit sturdier:
So that's like three covers in one!! I love it :)
I've been a busy bee over the weekend because my husband very kindly went out for the day with the kids (oh he is wonderful!). So I also finished up my little sewing case...
and have sent one to a friend :) I love making these, Amy's tutorial is brilliant!
I've also managed to make a start on the zip bag for the overflowing notions and zips I have. I couldn't stop myself from using the gorgeous little squares Heather from Crafting... sent me:
These are teeny tiny now!! Each square is just 7/8"! I used Elizabeth's (Oh, Fransson!) fantastic method from Sew, Mama, Sew! Super easy and it just looks so cute. I thought I'd ran out of interfacing (later found some more!!) so I made a different back:
I like it, it's a nice plain contrast to the busier front and I just LOVE that mustard. The tension was totally off, I was getting used to the machine but I kind of like those loopy lines so I'm just going with it. Should be able to put this together tomorrow!
I have also thoroughly enjoyed rising to the challenge set by Amy's Creative Side and I have completed my first ever hand sewn paper piece block!! Whoo Hoo!
This is the first block I've made as part of the Rose and Star Block Party at My Selfsewn Life. Everyone's been making so many gorgeous blocks, totally inspirational!
Luckily I got to join in the Somewhere Over The Rainbow Charm Swap 2012 hosted by Emily at Strawberry Patch. So I got cutting and sent off my orange charms today :)

Lastly, I forgot to mention that last weekend my husband and I went to see 'The Artist'. I wasn't too sure I would like it. Silent movie?? No, Ta!!
WRONG!! It was wonderful, magnificent, elegant and I want to watch it again, and again, and again. If you haven't, go see it!
I'm linking up to Amy's Creative Side and Canoe Ridge Creations.

Lucy, it all looks so great and I'm happy you're making use of those tiny squares! So that interfacing trick really works, hey? Should try it some day.
I'd been thinking about your Toyota this week (seriously!) and was going to email you to ask, but now I know! Congrats on the new machine, and I hope you have a long life together.
I think I saw your name as a winner of a contest today but I can't remember where!! Congrats. :)
Yea to a new (to you) machine and no great financial burden. More for fabric! Love the sewing cases and everything else you are making too for that matter.
Yay great news about the new machine! Fab makes, you already have it working hard! :) Love the rose/star block! I saw the advert for the artist the other day and thought it looked quite good, I may have to see if i can find it near me!
Wow, you've been! Congrats on the new machine. I'm loving the cover you made for it (i really need to make one for mine) and those sewing kits look fab. Yay for for husbands taking the kids out!
A post full of lovelies!! I hope Judy settles in well and continues to help you make wonderful things!
You've been busy! I'm so glad you posted the link to the little sewing case. I made one in November but for the life of me I couldn't find the tutorial to make another one.
So glad you've a working machine again. Love the cover and those pretty sewing cases and your Rose and Star block is fab!.
You need to send hubs out with the kiddos more often ;) What a bunch of pretties you have made. I am so happy you have a new machine. Aren't moms the best? Thanks for sharing with us! Hugs, Kim C ^i^
Well, you've put that machine to good use. Lovely cover for it, and I can't believe how tiny those squares are, I don't think I'd have the patience!
Wow! You're getting so much done! I need to step it up over here. I might have to give that hand-pieced block a go, too! Thanks for sharing :-D
Welcome to your new machine!! You were not joking when you said you were busy. I love your sewing machine cover, I need to make one of these for my machine now that it is always out!
Wow Lucy!!
Thanks for the link to the teeny squares!
The sewing machine cover is lovely Lucy and I love your sewing case too!
Sewing case looks so professional! and beautifully mitred corners on your binding.
Welcome indeed Judy, you will be an excellent addition to the family!
It's all so beautiful, Lucy! And I'm very jealous about the machine! My mum had a purring old one that sits in her cupboard. Surely she could have mine sit there for whenever she wants to hem some jeans!! :)
Yay for new toys and having time to play with them!
Yeah for all that creativity Lucy! I love those little sewing cases and your rose star! I want to make one too but have a couple of things to finish first!
Here's to lots more sewing with Judy - cheers!
Congratulations on your new Janome! Looks like you've been madly sewing and enjoying your new machine tremendously!
Wow you've been busy! Sounds like you and Judy have been having lots of fun and creating lovely things.
Hello Judy! I can see that you will be very nicely taken care of, not to mention well clothed in your new home. :o) Love all your projects, Lucy. Looking good!
Congrats on the new machine - very fun!! I love your new cover AND your travel sewing kit!! I was gifted with one of those recently & they are so cool!
Love love love the tiny squares! I've done them that way before, it works really well doesn't it?
Whats the story behind "a boy named sue?", favorite song?
congrats on the new machine! and the cover is just adorable!
also, the rose and star block is great. that layout is just perfect!
New machines are so fun! Great projects!!
love the 'new' machine. I have recently 'borrowed' my mums sewing machine. Its got to be over 20 years old, but its a Pfaff and still goes like clockwork and has a lot more functions than mine. I have just checked out Amys tutorial and added that to my 'want to make' list!
good for you on the new machine and it sure looks like you've been a busy girl! All the projects look great, but I LOVE your sewing machine cover and that rose and star block. Awesome!
Getting a new machine is wonderful, and thats a lovely cover you've made her so I'm sure she's going to fit in happily ;-)
Lovely paper pieced block too btw!
WOW Lucy!!! You were a sewing wild woman this weekend! So fun about your new machine and all of your creations are fabulous!!! I'm so glad you had fun making your sewing kits! :)
xoxo
I think poor old Judy is wishing she was back at your Mums after that marathon of a sewing session that she has done over the weekend!!! Did she loose any pounds this week?
Nice to meet you Judy! Love that sewing case with the neutral binding, the rest too. You've been so busy. Do you sleep?
